Project | Paperback Updated Edition for
The Seven Sins of Memory

This project was with HMH Books & Media. For the updated edition, I used the Quark design sample from a previous edition and re-created it in Indesign for a smaller trim size.

The original was 6 x 9 and the updated edition needed to be 5 5/16 x 8. I also designed the new section, "The Update" at the end of each chapter and set the praise.

Project | Paperback Additions

While working for HMH, one of my duties was to handle the composition for paperback reprints and design any additional materials: praise, a reading group guide, and an afterword or epilogue.

When designing these elements, especially the praise, I would look at how the half title and title page were positioned and mirror it whether it was center or flush left. I also like to incorporate elements from the interior into the praise.

For example, in the pdf, I've included a small triangle below "Heart Breath Mind" since it was used in the part opener and chapter opener. I've also extracted a few pages from the backmatter I designed to showcase the use of a numbered list and a hierarchy for the Q & A. These are only two of over twenty paperbacks I have worked on for HMH (and HarperCollins).

Titles in PDF: Heart Breath Mind and Becoming Duchess Goldblatt

Project | Burnt Pine Magazine

The magazine isn't necessarily a "project," but the work I do with Burnt Pine is continuous. With every upcoming issue, I create and design cover images and headers; I copyedit every piece and have it conform to WordPress without losing its original format; and conceptualize and create social media graphics to promote and upcoming issue and/or announce when we're open for submissions.

Canva is primarily used.

MASTER'S PROGRAM PROJECTS

Project | Book Design & Production

For my graduate Book Design & Production class, we were tasked with designing a new version of a book of our choice. I chose Jane Eyre for my project.

This was a trend in my class since we all seemed keen on using the Millennial Pink. I wanted to give the cover and the interior a classic yet soft and sophisticated look. Looking back on this on now, there are facets that I would definitely change or fix but overall I was so proud to have completed it, and I could show the print book off to my family and friends.

InDesign was used to design the interior and then page the book. For the cover, the vector art was used with permission from Vecteezy. I also used Adobe Illustrator to edit the vector art.

Trim size: 6" x 9"

Fonts used: Texas Hero, Segoe UI Light, and Sitka

Project | Book Publishing Overview

For my graduate Book Publishing Overview class, we had to create a mock book proposal, and the publisher my group chose to propose to was National Geographic.

A design for the exterior and interior was required. The design is meant to conform with Nat. Geo's format; this is in no way, a real design.

Adobe InDesign was used to create the exterior and interior.

Project | Final Project: Frida Kahlo

For my graduate Applications in Print Publishing class, we were tasked with creating a poster and booklet depicting a hypothetical exhibit for our assigned artist. As you can see, my artist was Frida Kahlo.

InDesign was used to create the booklet and poster, and Photoshop was used to edit the images on and in the poster and booklet.

Poster trim size: 10" x 20"

Booklet Trim size: 8" x 5"
